| PROGRAM: We have multi-level program designed to meet the needs of all scouts. |
| CAMP-OUTS: Usually the 3rd weekend of each month. We meet in the church's East parking lot on Friday at 5:45pm in full class 'A' Uniform. Return time on Sunday afternoon varies from noon to 2:00. Cost for Camp-outs. Food cost is usually $8.00. There is occasionally a Camp Fee depending upon the camp-out location. The cost should be paid 2 Mondays before, but no later than the Monday night preceding a camp-out. (Plan to eat dinner Friday before you come or bring a sack lunch) 2008 CAMP-OUT CALENDAR |
| MEDICINE (at camp): All scouts bringing medicine on a camp-out are responsible for their own medication and should advised by the parent not to share with others and to advise an their patrol advisor. Medication should be in the original container and plainly marked with the scout's name. A written note from the parent should accompany the medicine plainly stating the medication and dosage directions. |
| SUMMER CAMP: Our troop attends Summer Camp each year in June or July. Camp is a great chance for all scouts to learn, explore, advance, and get to know their fellow scouts and of course, have fun! Cost for camp usually ranges from $175 to $200. Fund-raisers are held to help scouts pay their own way to camp. Do Not let finances keep your scout from camp. There are a few partial scholarships available each year. | DUES: Troop Dues are $6.00 monthly and are collected at the first meeting of each month. The troop offers each scout the opportunity to pay his dues for the entire year during the month of January, if paid at that time the scout receives a $10.00 discount. The dues cover the operating cost of the troop, upkeep on equipment and awards. Any Scout who is more than 3 months behind in his dues and has not made arrangement to pay is not permitted to go on camp-outs. (Arrangements can be made for those in need and are kept confidential) |
| ADVANCEMENT: The first thing a scout need is a Boy Scout Handbook. It not only has all of the requirements for advancement through the rank of Eagle; it is also an official copy of your advancement records. Do Not Loose It! We suggest you protect your book with a vinyl book cover and zip-lock bag. The handbook should be brought to every meeting and every camp-out. First, advancement is the responsibility of the Scout. Adult and youth instructors will make available opportunities for advancement, either in class or on an individual basis. Our meeting and camp-out programs are designed for the scout to learn and advance while having fun. The ranks of Tenderfoot, Second and First Class may be worked on simultaneously, but must be awarded in the proper order. Merit Badges may be worked on at any time; priority should be given to rank advancement until a Scout reaches the rank of First Class. Each scout is required to get two signatures on each of the requirement through First Class, they should be from the patrol advisor or approved instructor (can not be the Scout's parent). The Troop Advancement Chairman is the only person who can fill in the blanks and sign the requirements for Star, Life and Eagle. |
| PATROL LEADERS COUNCIL: There is a monthly PLC that should be attended by all Patrol Leaders or Assistants, Troop Leadership and Troop Guides. The PLC is the boy leadership of the troop planning their program for the upcoming months. The Senior Patrol Leader chairs the PLC. |
| COURT OF HONOR: This is a quarterly event where Scouts are recognized for all rank advancement and merit badges earned during the past quarter. Our February Court is traditionally a potluck dinner. Courts of Honor are for the whole family. |
| TROOP COMMITTEE: Our troop Committee Meetings are held quarterly and are noted in the troop newsletter. The Committee is the adult leadership that supports the Boy Scout Program by providing leaders who, control finances, plan fund-raisers, insure we have the needed equipment, help with uniforms, monitors advancement, etc. All parents are encouraged to attend. Contact the Committee Chairman if you need to add something to the agenda. |
| FUNDRAISING: Several Fund-raising opportunities are available throughout the year. Money earned by each scout is kept in an Individual Account for him within the troop. The money in his account may be used for long term camps, such as summer camps, high adventure trips, etc. Generally the money cannot be used for Dues or monthly camp-outs. Exceptions may be discussed with the Scoutmaster. A scout leaving the troop forfeits money in his account from fund-raising. |
| COMMUNICATION: A vital part of troop operations. A monthly newsletter is posted on the Troop Members secure portion of this web site and is mailed to every family in the troop. This web site is updated frequently and e-mails are frequently sent advising families of any changes. |

TERMS AND ACRONYMS COUNCIL Our council is the Indian Nations. The council is made up of most of the Green Country area. A council is comprised of many Districts.DISTRICT Our district is Twin Arrows. Our district is made up of packs, troops and venturing post in the Broken Arrow, Union, Coweta and Bixby areas. PLC Patrol Leaders Council The P.L.C. consist of of Boy Senior Leadership and Patrol Leaders. They are representatives of their patrols in the planning meetings for troop activities including camp-outs and meetings. COURT OF HONOR Quarterly recognition Ceremony for scouts who have advanced in rank or earned Merit Badges in the past quarter. The whole family is encouraged to attend. PATROL A troop is broken up into smaller groups called Patrols. Patrols are made up of 6 to 10 scouts of the same approximate age and rank. Each patrol has an Adult Patrol Advisor. Patrols are the working units of a large troop. Patrols elect their own leaders, decide on a name, camp, cook and work together on camp-outs. For a large troop to be successful depends on the strength of their patrols. VENTURE SCOUTS Older scouts who have earned the rank of First Class and have completed the following merit badges. First Aid, Camping and Swimming. Certain special advanced skill activities are for Venture Scouts only. ORDER OF THE ARROW The OA is an honor camping organization within the Boy Scout program that supports camping, and service within their unit. Troop members are nominated for membership by a vote of all the boys within their troop annually. To be eligible a scout must have earned the rank of First Class and have a total of 15 days and nights camping with at least 5 of those including a long term camp. Those nominated must then complete an 'Ordeal' weekend to become members. BOARD OF REVIEW When a scout completes all the requirements for a rank, he must first have a conference with the Scoutmaster and then participate in a Board of Review. The Board of Review is staffed by at least 3 registered members of the troop committee. The purpose is not to test the scouts again, but to determine that he has learned and is enjoying his scouting experience. TROOP COMMITTEE The Troop Committee is made up of registered adults in the troop. The purpose of the committee is to support the troop program. This support includes, but is not limited to, providing facilities, equipment, funds and promoting advancement. LUMBJERACK PATROL The Adult Patrol, members include all registered leaders and parents of registered scouts. F.O.S. TRAINING Fundamentals Of Scouting. Training for adults on the Boy Scout program. The District Training Committee offers this course every spring and fall. The course involves one Saturday, one Wednesday evening and one weekend camp-out. This course is required for adult leaders working with scouts and is highly recommended for parents of scouts. ROUNDTABLE This is a monthly district event for all leaders. The purpose is for leaders from different troops to get together and share information, ideas and concerns. Our district roundtable is held the 2nd Thursday of every month and Broken Arrow Church of Christ at 4th & Kenosha. RECHARTER Each November / December the troop renews our charter with the BSA by registering scouts for the upcoming year. Yearly membership fees are paid at this time.
